Happy New Year (Its the Jewish new year - Rosh Hashana tonight)
Many things are great about this day in Israel: Vacation, Amazing weather, family...
But one aspect has become really horrible: New years "greetings"
"Thanks" to technology, these have become a real nuisance. And this year, the phenomena has become quite insane:
- My Inbox has been blasted with "happy new year" Mass sent emails.
- Today in Israel 15Million (!) SMS messages were sent. (There are around 6M people in Israel)
- All day it was quite impossible to reach people on the mobile network, since the system was overloaded
In New Years Greetings, As in marketing - You need to deliver a message, and you need to rise above the "noise". Well, it seems SMS and Email greetings have become pure noise. Spam.
To make an impact, its about time we think a bit differently. And we don't even need to think hard. Just look back 5-10 years:
Pick up the phone and call. (preferably a fixed line phone)
or use the social networking sites to send out holiday greetings instead of the mass emails....
Plus skype is always a great alternative if the phone lines are overloaded :)
happy, healthy and sweet new year!
